After a long dry spell of being unemployed I have returned to the ranks of the employed. Though the position is part-time and temporary it is my fervent prayer that it will become a permanent full-time gig. I have to give a big THANK YOU! to Stephie E. for my wife about the position and then being my advocate. I’m working at NDS Inc. as a designer where I’m doing stuff for print, web and video. The work has been really interesting and the people friendly!
I got inspired a few days ago about motion graphics that use type as the art element for a motion graphics video. There are lots of great examples on the web but I found two that really stood out as good examples. The first is “Say What” by Jarratt Moody set to a scene from “Pulp Fiction.”
The next one is “Oceans Eleven Typography” by Hidir.
Both of these videos are done so well and have a great rhythm to them. So, I’ve set out to give this a go.
I’ve been in Ventura since the end of May 2011 and I know I shouldn’t still be surprised by the climate here, but, I am. Outside of my time in Hawaii, I have never lived in a place where the weather is so consistently comfortable and nice. Oh, sure there are days when its, rainy, cloudy, or cold, but not all the time. For the most part the temperature stays really mild and we get plenty of sunshine. I joke around and tell people that Ventura is in a sweet spot when comes to the climate.
So, I’m finally back to posting on my blog. Hopefully I will be able to post regularly. I’ve added a some new sections to my blog site “Days in Ventura” which is primarily about my attempts to break into the movie and television industry in SoCal. “Movie Rants” is my place to talk about the movies I watch.
I’m also helping with another blog site: Pastor Greg Smith. Greg is the minister for First and St. Paul’s Church in Downey, CA.
I’m actually sitting down and getting serious about getting some new pieces completed for my portfolio and demo reel. I’ve got a couple of ideas that have been moving around in my head for a few years now. One of them is inspired by a book. I’ll give more details later.
I’m happy to say that I’ve become a grandfather this week. Kelli gave birth to Landyn Christopher on Thursday, January 27. He was 7lbs 11oz and 20 inches long. I’m so proud! He’s awesome!
Kelli, Chris and Landyn are coming home today. The whole house is so excited, there’s this sense of anticipation in the air.
My first Blog ever!
I was thinking of assignment activities in one of my classes and it struck me to try this out. I really don’t know if I’ll be a regular blogger, but I guess we will see.
Well, I’ve gotten all caught up in trying to figure out what theme I like how to change the picture in the header blah blah blah 😀
